EVESHAM’S Simon Andrews rode through the pain-barrier at Knockhill as he claimed respectable fourth and sixth-place finishes in round six of the ViSK British Superbikes.
Andrews was left devastated on Friday night after an x-ray confirmed his wrist — which had been giving him problems since Snetterton two weeks ago — was broken.
The MSS Colchester Kawasaki rider had hoped to put his feet up for two weeks ahead of the next stage of the season at Mallory Park in a fortnight.
After admitting he was forced to grit his teeth during race two with the pain in his wrist worsening — Andrews, who last week appeared in the World Superbikes at Donington Park, will be forced to have surgery before he takes to the track again.
“I got the broken wrist at Snetterton but I didn’t find out until I got here that it was broken,” said Andrews.
“I went in to have some physio at Knockhill and it was still tender so I had it x-rayed and it showed up that it was broken.
“Given my injury, I am pleased with my results but it is annoying because I have only just started to get over my injuries from the start of the season.
“Instead of having a couple of weeks off between now and Mallory Park and a bit of a rest, I have now got to get some surgery on my hand sorted.”
Andrews, though, admitted it wasn’t all doom and gloom after moving his tally to 92 points at the weekend, leaving him sixth overall, five ahead of Karl Harris and seven behind Josh Brookes.
“It’s been tough — having a broken wrist isn’t the easiest of things and it really affected me in the second race,” he added. “I was pushing hard to try and catch Karl because he was leading me in the championship.
“Fortunately for me, he had a problem and after that I just tried to make sure I maintained the lead I had and just coasted home.
“I am ahead of Karl now in the championship which is good, especially with the injury.”
