TERRY Box produced stunning form to win club contests on both Saturday and Sunday.

Firstly, Box took top place on a Barbourne AC event, held on the prolific Clattercote Reservoir, near Banbury.

After a fruitless start to the day, he had to wait until the final hour of the match before capitalising on his end peg draw by netting around a dozen carp on floating dog biscuit for a winning weight of 45-4-0.

Runner-up was Nigel Hobday, who took 39-12-0 by fishing a pellet waggler shallow at 50 yards. Talented Chris Carter used the same tactics nearby to weigh in a third-placed 29-8-0 with Phil Holland securing the final fourth spot with a method-caught weight of 27-4-0.

The following day, Box once again drew peg one, this time on the Wards AC match at Brockamin top pool where he recorded winning figures of 59-0-0 of carp, all coming to pellet and paste from the margins in the last two hours of the contest.

Second was Colin Proud, who also used the pellet and paste combination on peg nine for a 44-12-0 total, while third place went to venue regular Terry Cook with 32-6-0 from the end peg in the neck.

The previous week, Derek Silk claimed pole position on the Wards event held on the river Teme at Bransford with a creditable stick float chub and barbel catch of 15-0-0.

Leon Elsworth finished runner-up with 9-10-0 and in third spot was Kevin Proud’s weight of 9-8-0.

Cob House Fisheries’ Laugherne Island Pool was in fine form for the Whitehall AC club match with Andy Sankey taking an excellent winning net of 62-12-0 consisting of carp and silvers caught on pole and paste from peg 29. Close behind in second was in-form Dave Warren with 61-0-0 from peg 14, while third was Colin Davis weighing 52-6-0.

Section winners: Keith Holt 37-0-0; Anthony Staite 26-14-0; Dave Yapp 35-8-0; Les Thompson 32-11-0.

Mick Weston made it three wins in a row when he took first place in the Portobello contest, held on their own pool at Rushwick.

Drawn on peg 14, Weston netted carp to eight pounds on paste for a total weight of 52-6-0.

Stuart Tibbetts reclaimed his form by securing the runner-up prize with 26-15-0 from the adjacent peg 13.

Consistent Pete Coldrick was third weighing 18-15-0 to beat Alan Tibbetts’ macaroni-caught weight of 9-11-0.

Next week the club are on the Jubilee Pool at Evesham. Dave Hinley needed just 1-7-0 of small perch and roach to win the Arbo club match on the Rifleman’s stretch of the Droitwich canal.

Phil Bennett’s 1-4-8 pinkie-caught net was second, Ron Smith took third prize weighing 0-13-0 and Bill Skillbeck was fourth with 0-11-8.

The Arbo are on the river Severn at Ribbesford on Sunday.

The Rifleman’s club faired better when they tackled the Arbo pool at Leigh Sinton with Ken Smith coming out on top thanks to a fantastic 30-3-0 of carp, all caught at six metres on worm.

Mike Hatton took second prize with 26-2-0 on caster and corn, Pete Chance was third weighing 24-3-0, while in fourth place was Wayne Smith’s 20-11-0.

Rifleman’s AC travel to Piddle Pool for their next match on Sunday, July 19.

Moorlands Farm; Wednesday over 50s open: 1 M Watson 100-12-0; 2 M Lefevre 73-9-0.
