Thrilling match ends in a draw

CAPTAIN Arti Fiaz helped concoct a thrilling finish out of a rain-affected match between the Gentlemen of Worcestershire and the King’s School.

After a delayed start, the Gents won the toss and batted first, reaching 61-2 after 16 overs when a 10-minute shower forced the players off.

The Gents added 65 in the next nine overs, but wickets fell regularly before Fiaz declared on 126-9, leaving the schoolboys 20 overs to get the runs. Duncan Catterall and Tom Gwynne bowled an excellent opening spell, and King’s fell behind the rate.

Skipper Liam Gwynne (43) and Sam Harris (40) launched a counter-attack when the change bowlers came on, adding 73 in 10 overs.

Jack Ellis hoisted Matt Rawnsley for six, but fell to a Fiaz slower ball for 14.

The final over began with King’s needing nine to win and Rawnsley bowling.

Harry Iddon smashed a one-bounce four to level the scores with one ball left.

However, Rawnsley then bowled Iddon with the final ball as the game ended in a draw with the scores level.
