TERRY Southard narrowly won the White Hart AC float-only contest on the club pool at Grimley with a net which included carp to double figures.
His offering of sweetcorn bait tight across to the far bank reeds on peg 10 produced a number of fish, giving him a final tally of 25-10-0.
Just one fish adrift came Neil Wharton, whose second-placed catch of 23-6-0 included bream and carp all taken on pole-fished pellet and corn from peg 8.
Dan Clarke came third weighing 15-7-0, including bream off peg 26 to beat Brian Butler’s fourth-placed weight of 14-4-0.
This year’s aggregate sees Southard out in front with 26 points, Tosh Foster is second on 21, while Clarke third with 15. Trevor Powell (15) is fourth. The next White Hart contest is on the Arbo Pool on Sunday, July 26.
The Swan club contest held on the high wall section of the canal at Stoke Works went to breadpunch specialist Les Sanders with an all-roach net of 8-6-0. After starting on his favourite method, Sanders changed to hemp late in the match to keep fish coming.
The runner-up prize went to Len Merrill, who caught two bream and a few small fish for 5-9-0. The unstoppable Mick Samson had to be content with third place with his bream and roach catch of 3-12-0, while Bill Biddle was fourth, weighing 2-1-0.
Excellent two-and-a-half-hour weights were recorded yet again on the Whitehall open contest which took place on the club pool.
Offering his paste bait on peg 24 was eventual winner Nigel Crane, who took 45-10-0 to the scales. Consistent Dave Warren came second, also on paste, weighing in with a level 40 pounds off peg 27. Colin Hope secured third prize with carp and silvers going 29-10-0. Andy Sankey broke the club record when they visited Greenhills fishery by netting a staggering 102-12-0 of carp from the margins on meat and corn from peg six.
Second with 61-8-0 was Carl Graham, followed by Colin Davis weighing 52-8-0.
Section winners were: A, Tom Mitchenall; B, Paul Edwards; C, John Snelson; D, junior Shane Taylor; E, Keith Holt.
The Arbo members’ disappointment from having to move their club match from an unfishable meadow three at Ribbesford to their own pool at Leigh Sinton turned into elation for new member Graham Clarke, whose winning carp weight of 26-1-0 came to waggler and meat offered close in on peg three. Luke Reardon was once again in the frame with a second-placed 19-3-0 taken on the meat from fancied peg 22.
Phil Bennett claimed third spot, weighing 11-3-8 ahead of Ade Wilks’ 8-8-0.
F1 carp were feeding in earnest when the Portobello club visited Evesham’s Jubilee Pool. Continuing an excellent season was Mick Weston who took pole position with a paste-caught 51-10-0.
Gary Brixton (50-7-0) came second, third was small fish expert Ron Eagle (44-13-0) and fourth was secretary Graham Collins (33-15-0).
The Barbourne Pool at Cotheridge hit excellent form for the club’s latest contest with Ashley Bosworth netting 83-12-0 from the inside on peg 21 on meat and corn baits.
Bob Griffiths secured the runner-up place with a weight of 67-4-0, beating his son Lee, who took third weighing in 55-4-0, while in fourth position was Richard Hancox, who took 45-8-0 to the scales.
