Tim dominates shock struggle

WORCESTER star Tim Biddle took the only double-figure catch of the day at the Tewkesbury club contest.

With the River Severn carrying extra colour, thoughts of big weights were in the minds of the 35 anglers competing.

But it did not work out that way as Biddle blitzed the match with figures of 23lbs 10oz from upstream peg 81.

After starting on the accepted open-end feeder method, he changed after a fruitless first hour.

Biddle then fished maggot over small balls of groundbait on a five-metre whip to hammer out a staggering 230 small skimmer bream.

Second place fell to a net of tiny bream weighing 9-2 and Russell Jeynes claimed third prize with two bream and eels from peg five going 6-13.

Severn regular Pete Jones had a similar catch weighing 6-9. Club star Gary Brixton recorded one of the biggest winning weights in a Portobello contest.

Runner-up Mick Weston continued his good form by netting 87-0 on the pellet and Brixton’s son Gary came third with 74-2.
