WORCESTER City manager Richard Dryden wants to focus on keeping a settled side as the new season fast approaches.

There are just three pre-season friendlies left until City kick-off their Blue Square South campaign against Bromley at St George’s Lane on Saturday, August 8.

Blue Square North side Solihull Moors visit the Lane tomorrow (3pm) before City entertain Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday and travel to Hinckley United the following Saturday.

Dryden has used the three warm-up fixtures so far to cast his eye over potential new signings while also improving fitness levels.

But the Worcester manager is ready to step up his preparations and look at fielding a team that could start the campaign in a fortnight.

“There might be a few changes but the main thing has got to be Bromley at home on August 8 and we will get ready for it,” he said.

“It’s time now for the lads to start playing 90 minutes so there might be less changes against Solihull, Kidderminster and Hinckley.”

City missed out on a training session last night because of the rearranged match at Stourport Swifts but Dryden does not expect two games in 48 hours to have too much effect on the squad.

He said: “It’s not the end of the world, it’s a training session less but we look quite fit. It’s just a case of being ready when it comes to August 8.

“It might get us prepared for the season when we play on a Saturday and then Monday. That could be a positive point for us and that’s how I am going to take it.”

Tomorrow’s match against Solihull will be City’s first on home soil since the 3-0 victory over AFC Liverpool on May 4 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the FA Cup success over Liverpool.

The Lane was not the happiest of hunting grounds for Dryden’s team last season but the manager is relishing the chance to get back on the pitch. Extensive work has been carried out, with the re-seeding of the goalmouths and centre-circle, but it held up well during the Leukaemia Care charity match earlier this month.

Gary Walker, who missed the Stratford victory on Saturday, could be in line to play most of the match but fellow midfielder Dave Bampton has needed hospital treatment for a leg infection after an insect bite on holiday.

Meanwhile, Worcester City Supporters Club will continue to run travel to away matches this season.

The fans’ group has committed to organising coaches, subject to enough interest, starting with the final friendly at Hinckley United.

Phil Gardiner has been re-elected supporters’ club chairman with Keith Chambers vice-chairman and in charge of travel.

The committee of 14, who have also secured sponsorship, want to forge closer links with Worcester’s board of directors.
