UNREST among Worcester City fans continues to grow after 150 signed a petition calling for former chairman Dave Boddy to quit the board.

Supporter Niels Eiriksson independently canvassed opinion on the Brookside at St George’s Lane during Saturday’s 1-0 victory against Dover Athletic.

He said he had been enraged by Boddy’s claim that the opposition to the board of directors over their handling of the move to Nunnery Way was a ‘small minority making a loud noise’.

Eiriksson showed the petition to chairman Anthony Hampson and vice-chairman Jim Panter at a fans’ forum which took place after the Blue Square South match.

“About half the people I asked to sign, signed it,” Eiriksson, a member of the Supporters Trust, said.

“About a quarter didn’t want to sign and the other quarter were either Dover fans, people who didn’t know the situation or children.

“So that small minority was half the people I asked.”

Boddy, who stood down as chairman last November, was not present at the game because he is on holiday.

Meanwhile, the club’s position on Nunnery Way is set to clarified as a meeting at Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Tuesday, October 20.

Conflicting messages have been coming out of St George’s Lane in recent days and Hampson wants to bring an end to the confusion.

The board, together with representatives from Careys New Homes and St Modwen, are expected to attend the meeting for shareholders and supporters.

On the pitch, manager Richard Dryden praised the defensive qualities of his Worcester City team after their morale-boosting 1-0 win over Dover.

Mark Clyde’s 34th-minute header proved enough to hand City their second league win of the season and knock Dover off top spot.

It moved Dryden’s men out of the bottom three and was the fifth time this season they have stopped the opposition from scoring.

The manager said: “It’s another clean sheet and for 90 minutes ag-ainst a top side we defended very well so I am very happy.

“Ben Hinchliffe pulled off a great save from 25 yards mid-way through the second-half but if he’s doing that it just shows how hard the back four and midfield worked to stop them playing.

“I was surprised at Dover, I thought they would play a bit better but the windy conditions were bad for both sides.

“They have got technically good players but even they were struggling to keep the ball on the deck.

“We weathered the storm, could have lost the game, could have drawn it but we also could have won it two or three nil.

“We are looking solid and if we keep clean sheets we are going to be picking up a lot of points.”
