BEN Copson demonstrated nerves of steel to kick Bromsgrove to a dramatic last-gasp 21-20 win over South Leicester in National Three Midlands.

The first-half was a dour affair with Bromsgrove making little headway against a well organised defence.

The hosts were well on top for most of the half with back-rowers Tom Warren and Drew Harper prominent along with prop Paul Norris South Leicester opened the scoring when skipper March was driven over. Bromsgrove responded well and forced a penalty, which Copson converted, from the re-start.

John Critchlow nearly added a score for Bromsgrove, but was held up over the line.

Visiting flanker Maxxi Castrogiovani, brother of Leicester Tigers star Martin, was yellow-carded for persistent infringement and Copson slotted the penalty.

After the break, the impressive Luke Davies touched down for Bromsgrove, but the hosts replied straight away with a penalty.

A missed tackle then allowed Castrogiovani to score under the posts, but Copson bagged another penalty to reduce the gap to one point.

A Yeow try stretched the visitors’ advantage but, from the last play of the match, James Lloyd Jones crashed over for Bromsgrove, before Copson kept his cool to snatch victory with the conversion.
