DISJOINTED Droitwich did just enough to beat a spirited Spartans side 16-6 in Midlands Two West (South).

Good work by Steve Poke, Nick Godfrey and Dean Goddard forced the visitors to kill the ball and Chris Hooper slotted the penalty.

A break by Hooper found Mark Strutt to dash for the line before feeding Matt Barnes, who was hauled down a few meters short. Prop Dylan Jones followed up and crashed over. James Metcalfe added the tricky conversion.

Spartans came back strongly and reduced the arrears with a well-struck penalty.

With the strong breeze in their favour in the second period, Droitwich seemed to be indecisive as to what tactics to use.

Full-back Jack Pomroy linked with Barnes to pressure the Spartans line and the visitors conceded another penalty, which Metcalfe scored.

Spartans came back well with some intelligent running and a penalty saw them reduce the lead to seven points.

A Spartans off-side allowed Metcalfe to give his side some breathing space.

The final 10 minutes saw the visitors pressure the Droitwich line, but the defence kept them at bay, with the final whistle bringing relief to the home support.

Droitwich retained their unbeaten record as Spartans lost theirs.
