MILES Benjamin and Alex Grove grabbed Euro braces as Warriors secured a fine victory over Olympus Rugby XV Madrid at Estadio Uni-versidad Complutense in the Amlin Challenge Cup.

Mike Ruddock’s men st-ormed into complete control by the half-time interval as Grove (2), Benjamin and Jonny Arr all crossed the whitewash.

A disjointed and scrappy second-half saw Warriors add a further try through the hard-working Benjamin, while George Crook slotted 13 points in his first start, as they took maximum points from a first trip to Spanish shores.

An early mistake saw home full-back Cesar Sem-pere kick dead with a long punt from inside his own half and give Worcester a scrum in a useful position at the midpoint of the Madrid half.

The ball was spread wide with pace and when Rico Gear chipped ahead the home side made a mess of the loss ball and Grove pounced to score the opening try. Crook added the extras for a dream start.

A penalty for not releasing gave Crook the chance to extend the lead and the fly-half made no mistake for a 10-0 lead after 15 minutes.

The pressure was now relentless from Warriors and neat hands right then left saw Johnny Arr and Grove combine before the centre applied the finishing pass for Benjamin to score and extend the lead to 17-0.

Madrid looked to use their forwards to make ground, but the solid Worcester wall was holding firm until the hosts hit back on 25 minutes when a break in midfield saw the play taken up to the Warriors 10-metre line before being shifted right for Matias Tudela to score.

The try stirred Worcester back into action as King bobbed inside his man in midfield and fed Arr on his shoulder. The scrum-half stepped the last man and then raced the home full back to the corner, with the scrum-half just making the whitewash. Crook added the extras for a 24-5 advantage.

James Collins showed outstanding work on the floor to turnover ball and when Madrid needlessly knocked on deep inside their own half the ball again was handed to Worcester in a promising position. This time it was Grove who broke the home line after a flat pass from Crook as the centre blazed over for the bonus point try.

A half-time change saw Callum Black replace Jack Gilding as Worcester looked to turn the screw, but they lost Chris Fortey to the sin-bin just six minutes into the second-half.

Despite being a man down, the game continued to be played in the home half and Benjamin came off his wing with devastating impact as he burst through for the fifth try of the afternoon for Worcester and a 38-5 lead.

The hosts enjoyed a series of penalties and line-outs close to the Worcester line as they hunted a second try, however, when Madrid spil-led the ball it was cleared.

Chris Pennell made his return to action on 67 minutes to replace Crook and was soon in the thick of the action as Worcester continued to battle to hold out a spirited late show from the home side.

Grove mounted a late charge with a step inside before he was taken down after making 30 yards.
