UPTON’S good start to the season came to a shuddering halt with a poor performance and a 36-8 Midlands Three West (South) defeat to Old Leamingtonians in Warwickshire.
Despite losing some early scrums, Upton’s pack battled back and held their own, while the line-out was excellent, but the visitors couldn’t get any continuity going and lacked physicality at the breakdown.
Upton conceded an early try and penalty and had flanker Adam Heath binned after 15 minutes.
Old Leams crossed the whitewash once more before the break. Chris O’Neil’s penalty opened Upton’s account, but Old Leams replied with another try to lead 22-3.
The hosts scored another two converted tries as Upton wilted. Alex Pimlow scored a late try in the corner.
