WORCESTER City fans will tonight be presented with plans to build a scaled-down stadium at Nunnery Way.

The Blue Square South club’s board of directors will put proposals for a £2million development to shareholders and supporters at Worcestershire County Cricket Club’s Graeme Hick Pavilion at 7pm.

The latest scheme is based on that of Lancashire club Fleetwood Town, who have redeveloped three sides of their ground and have a current capacity of around 3,800.

City’s new ground would have three sides with the option of adding a fourth at a later date.

However, figures to be revealed at the meeting will show total expenditure, including the £1.35m bank debt, at £4.22m, leave a £720,000 shortfall following the proposed £3.5m sale of the Lane to Careys New Homes.

The club hope to bridge that funding gap with a Football Association grant, infrastructure help from St Modwen, naming rights and profit-share agreements.

The Royal Bank of Scotland want their money by the end of December unless City can prove they have a financially sustainable scheme in place.

Chairman Anthony Hamp-son will oversee the meeting and director David Hallmark will outline the project along with non-league stadia expert Alan Herbert and project manager Alan Williams.

City chief Hampson wants an amicable meeting and insists it is the fans’ views that count.

He said: “As far as I am concerned this is why the evening has been arranged. The fans are just as much entitled to air their views as anybody else.

“Without their support, the club and any envisaged project will be unviable and unsustainable.

“I am hoping that we can focus on where we are now and make constructive decisions for the future of the club and not dwell on the past and what might have been.”

The club’s supporters trust, who have expressed their concerns over the move, have also urged fans to attend.

Spokesman Rob Crean said: “All City supporters should try and make this important meeting and have their voices heard.”

Planning applications for both the Lane and Nunnery Way are on-going with the latest hearing expected to be in January.

Issues surrounding access to the Nunnery Way site via a pedestrian bridge have still to be resolved with the Highways Agency.

Representatives from Careys and St Modwen have been asked to attend but the club have yet to receive a response.
