THE opening week of the Worcester League Division One season saw good individual displays but no great surprises.
Holders St George’s were untroubled in seeing off the challenge of Nemesis.
Last year’s runners-up Rainbow overwhelmed Cripplegate Guild but there were some tight contests.
YMCA Falcons fought out a close encounter against St George’s Dragons.
John Stalker was in good form for Falcons, winning his three and combining with Ian Bell to claim the doubles.
Bell also won two singles with the best reply coming from Geoff Woodward’s two.
Himbleton ‘A’ and Hartlebury Wanderers proved to be a well-contested match. From 4-3 down, Hartlebury won the last three events to emerge victorious.
Brian Holyman was the only unbeaten player, receiving good support with two from Dave Jeffries and one from Arthur Bartram.
Most successful of the Himbleton players was John Rowe with two good victories.
Jostekeropa proved to be too strong for Broadheath Belters, led by three plus the doubles for Paul Smyth.
Ken Hipwell played well for his two wins in reply but two each for John Mytton and Rob Sinderberry completed Jostekeropa’s dominance. Results: St George’s 10 Nemesis 0; Rainbow 10 Cripplegate Guild 0; YMCA Falcons 6 St George’s Dragons 4; Himbleton ‘A’ 4 Hartlebury Wanderers 6; Broadheath Belters 2 Jostekeropa 8.
