WORCESTER Warriors have received a double boost with the news two star players do not need to go under the knife to resolve injury problems.

It was feared England Saxons prop Matt Mullan would need surgery on a hamstring injury and was facing up to four months on the sidelines.

The club had also announced back-row ace Kai Horstmann would have an operation to cure a rib problem.

But further scans revealed neither player needs surgery and 22-year-old loosehead Mullan is expected to be back in action in 10 to 12 weeks.

Number eight Horstmann should be back in the coming weeks.

Sixways rugby director Mike Ruddock said: “Obviously, among the disappointment of the initial injury for Matt, there seems to be some better news. The fact he doesn’t require surgery is a major one and we have a very positive prognosis.

“With Matt’s professionalism, dedication and desire, I know he will push every boundary to get back into action before the 10 to 12 week deadline.”

Shaun Ruwers had surgery on the tendon injury in his foot today and faces a long spell out.
