MARC McGregor is set to make his Worcester City debut against former club Weston-super-Mare on Monday night.

Manager Richard Dryden has been tracking the 31-year-old striker for some time and has finally prised him away from City’s Blue Square South rivals.

McGregor had scored four goals for the Seagulls this season, including one in Weston’s 3-1 victory over Worcester at the Woodspring Stadium last month.

The former Tamworth hitman is now expected to feature when the two sides go head-to-head at St George’s Lane on Monday.

Dryden said: “He works in Birmingham and lives in Tewkesbury so it’s good for him and us. He’s come to play football and not for the money which is a big bonus.

“Having spoken to Marc in the summer and again re-cently I think he thought it was time for a bit of a change and we need goals.

“He’s not going to be a Gabriel Agbonlahor and get down the wings but what he will do is get hold of the ball and get in the box.”

McGregor’s arrival may be followed by more signings but keeper Richard Mace has been released.

Dryden said: “I am still looking for another player, whether it be a forward or a wide player, and one or two may have to go for that to happen.

“It hasn’t been for the want of trying to get people in. I have spoken to a lot of players and I am happy to get Marc in.”

The manager added: “I have spoken to Richard Mace and he’s going to leave the club. He can train with us but I have got to cut back because I have brought Marc in.”

Southend-born striker McGregor rose to prominence at Forest Green Rovers, where he scored 24 goals before making a £35,000 switch to Nuneaton Borough.

He spent three years at the Warwickshire club before moving to Tamworth and then Weston.
