WORCESTER are celebrating having both their men’s and women’s first teams top of their respective divisions.

The men stay at the summit of BodyKraft Midlands Division One after a 4-2 at Coventry, while the women picked up a 2-0 success at Hampton to retain top spot in Midlands League Premier Division.

It was skipper Jon Sprague who was the men’s firsts hero as he fired home all the goals in the victory at Coventry.

His opening goal came from a penalty corner before the hosts levelled on the stroke of half-time despite Worcester’s dominance.

Sprague netted his second after the interval when Stuart Cunnington played in Pete Gibbins, who in turn picked out his skipper.

He then completed his hat-trick, his third in as many matches, with a penalty stroke before Coventry pulled one back but the skipper then fired home his fourth.

The sixths picked up a 2-1 win in South West Division One of the Central League over Olton fourths.

The visitors took the lead after only 10 minutes, before Ollie Bradley equalised for Worcester in the second-half and Colin Newman struck the winner.

The women’s firsts put the pressure on Hampton early in their 2-0 victory and it wasn’t long before they took the lead.

It was Rachel Creese who gave them lead when she fired home from a penalty corner, before Andrea Faull doubled the lead. Player-of-the-match was Elaine Shepperd.

The seconds secured a thrilling 5-3 victory over Droitwich firsts in Worcestershire League Division One.

Sade Gerald gave the city a 2-0 lead, before Libby Hayes made it three.

The vistors drew level with three goals either side of the break, but Hayes’ second and one for Lucy Merrett sealed the win.

The thirds came away from Stourport fourths with a 2-0 success in Division Three of the Worcestershire League with goals from Katy Chick and Erin Clarke. Alice Parsons was named player-of-the-match.

Worcester Under 14s boys drew and won one in the EH Knock-out Cup.

In their first game against Olton, Worcester could only field nine players, however, two goals from Daniel Ferrier gave them a 2-2 draw.

Against Edgbaston, with a full compliment of players, the city side raced into a 3-1 lead with goals from Ferrier, Ben Cooke and Matthew Hind before Cooke completed his hat-trick in the 5-3 victory.

The Badgers Pippens secured a 5-4 victory at Bromsgrove with Ferrier and Scott Smith among the goals.

However, the city side had to come from 4-1 down to secure the win in a thrilling match.

Sade Gerald hit a hat-trick for the Potters in their 6-1 win over Evesham Badgers.

In the a player-of-the-match performance, Gerald shone as Holly Smith, Jack Cutler and Dan Rushton were also on target.
