CLIFTON-on-Teme street luge ace Will Stephenson has returned victorious from a World Cup meeting in Brazil.

The 22-year-old extreme sports fanatic raced at speeds of up to 80mph in claiming a gold medal at the event in Teutonia in the South American country.

Stephenson fought off the challenge from more than 10 other professional competitors from all over the world to lift the prestigious title.

In the semi-finals, the Worcestershire racer went head-to-head with Chris ‘Big Mac’ McBride from Seattle, who is currently ranked as number one in the USA.

Stephenson won that contest by a nose to qualify for the final where he was pitted against Leo Borton, the Brazilian number one.

During the thrilling final, Stephenson and Borton went toe-to-toe. Coming into the high speed sweeping corner, Borton decided to break, while Stephenson took a risk and did not. The bold move put the county racer many metres ahead of Borton and helped him to claim a well deserved victory.

Stephenson, now ranked third in the world, is heading out to Australia at the end of November to compete at the world championships where he hopes to claim the world cup title.
