JOHNNY Arr has set his si-ghts on usurping fellow number nine Ryan Powell as Wor-cester Warriors’ first-choice scrum-half.

The former Royal Grammar School Worcester student, who has come through the ranks of the Sixways academy, regularly features off the bench, but is desperate to force director of rugby Mike Rud-dock into starting with him — and sooner rather than later.

Arr said: “At the start of the season, I looked at where I was and where I wanted to be. Nobody wants to be second choice and you want to push on and be the best in your position. This season has been OK so far.

“If I look back, there are definitely things I would have liked to have done better and done more of. I just want to build on what I have done so far and get even better.

“I definitely targeted this season as a big one for me.

“In terms of wanting to push on, I feel I have spent quite a bit of time on the edges so this is one season I am looking for an impact. There are a lot of areas I can improve.

“The coaches have made me aware of what they are and what I can do to achieve those goals.

“From now on, it’s just a case of throwing everything I have at it when I get the chance.”

Despite Worcester’s dire performance in the 12-12 draw with Bath, Arr is convinced Warriors rediscovered some of their spark in that game.

The young half-back ex-plained: “In previous weeks we felt like we had dropped a little bit in our intensity in the games, but we felt after the Bath game that we had got it back.

“The boys were really willing to work for each other, which is great, and we have just got to carry that through each week.

“One of the things we targeted this year was to make Sixways a fortress. We want to win every home game we can so we have got to make it as difficult as we can for teams to come here and perform.

“If we keep our intensity high, then there is no reason why we can’t get plenty of wins.”

He added: “The noise was definitely something that I noticed when I came on the pitch against Bath.

“I thought the fans were brilliant, they were making a lot of noise and that is what we need.

“When you get 60 to 70 minutes into a game when the boys get tired, the noise they were making against Bath really gave us all a lift.

“It’s a special atmosphere on a Friday night at Sixways. It is something that we love playing in front of.”
