KIDDERMINSTER Harriers chairman Bar-ry Norgrove insists the sale of top-scorer Mat-thew Barnes-Homer to fellow Blue Square Premier rivals Luton Town was a “very, very good deal.”

The England ‘C’ international left Aggborough on Thursday for a substantial five-figure fee, which will be completed in January when the transfer window re-opens.

While Norgrove was disappointed to see the striker leave, the chairman was pleased with the deal agreed with the Hatters.

“I have an excellent relationship with Matthew and didn’t want him to leave us,” Norgrove said.

“I have been working hard with a number of clubs who were interested in him and once it became clear that Matthew wanted to progress, our priority became making sure that the deal was right.

“It wasn’t just down to money, it was getting the right club for Matthew, and we have thrashed this deal out and are quite happy with what we’ve arranged with Luton.

“We stuck out for a good deal once we knew he was to leave us — if it wasn’t right for all parties then it would never have happened.”

With Barnes-Homer leaving for Kenilworth Road, Yates immediately brought in striker Ryan Charles on loan as well as Kettering Town forward Damian Spencer.
