FREE agent Jim Harvey has issued a come and get me plea to the Kidderminster Harriers board after quitting his post at Chester City.

The 51-year-old Northern Irishman vacated his post at the Deva Stadium on Sunday night after he was told he was not in the plans of director of football Morrell Maison, who is leading a consortium to buy the club.

The former Forest Green Rovers boss has been the front-runner to replace Mark Yates at Aggborough following his departure to League Two side Cheltenham Town last month.

Now that he has ended, his association with the Blue Square Premier basement boys, Harvey, who lives in Hereford, is keen to return to management.

“I am now obviously available for the Kidderminster Harriers job and it is a position I would be interested in,” he said.

Harriers chairman Barry Norgrove says the ex-Morecambe boss is in the running to replace Yates and is hoping the club’s directors will be able to get around the table before the end of this week.

Having had more than 50 applicants for the Aggborough vacancy, the recent snow and ice has prevented the directors from meeting to draw up a shortlist.

“Harvey will be in the running,” Norgrove said. “We will talk about him just like the rest of the applicants.

“We have got some good candidates and hopefully the board can get together by the end of the week and then we can draw up a shortlist of three or four.

“The weather has played havoc with us though, one of the directors is still snowed in, but the plan is to meet by the end of the week.”

Harvey will face a battle from former Harriers defender Jeff Kenna.

The ex-Republic of Ireland international has had spells in charge of Galway United and St Patricks Athletic in the League of Ireland, but is now working as a community coach at Premier League club Birmingham City.

Kenna has confirmed that he has applied for the job, as has current player-caretaker manager John Finnigan.

The former Cheltenham Town skipper misses out on another chance to impress tonight after Harriers’ FA Trophy second round clash at home to Lewes was postponed yet again.

Tim Flowers is another person thought to be among the applicants and the former England international was the goalkeeper coach at Manchester City during Stuart Pearce’s reign.

Flowers, who won 11 caps with England, has also been assistant manager to Iain Dowie at Coventry City and Queens Park Rangers.
