AT Worcester Nomads Cricket Club’s annual meeting the emphasise was on acheiving promotion to the Birmingham League — following in the recent footsteps of Brockhampton, Eastnor and Pershore.

The main core of the club has remained in place giving stability. Nick Williams (chairman), Chris Marsh (treasurer) and Dave Pearson (secretary) were all re-elected for another year.

Captains Dannie Rees (first XI) and Andy Leach (second XI) have both stepped down after three and four fairly successful years respectively.

These two prominent positions have been taken by Steve Walsh and Matt Ormerod respectively.

The third XI and fourth XI are to be captained by Dave Pearson and Paul Waugh.

Geoff Taylor has been re-elected as Sunday academy captain for another year, while Ben Schiffman has been elected as captain of the Sunday friendly XI.

Barrie Rees has stepped down as chairman of the cricket committee and has been replaced by Paul Gardner, although Rees will continue his responsibilities as first team manager and also the biggest responsibility of looking after the ground and surrounding areas.

Taylor has also been elected as youth chairman and hopes to build on the success of 2009, where the highlight was the under 13s, who won the ECB Worcestershire area final and went on to lose by three runs against eventual winners of the national competition Wolverhampton and also came runners-up in the county league.

Nomads are continuing with the development of their ground, with the recent extension now looking a permanent fixture. The boundary fences are currently being replaced and, by the start of the season, there will be a three-lane outdoor artificial net area. Nomads are currently running indoor net sessions at RGS Worcester on Sundays from 4pm to 7pm.
