Evesham United 0 Didcot Town 1

6:50pm Sunday 7th February 2010

EVESHAM United’s demise after the enforced six-week lay-off continued, losing to lowly Didcot Town in the Zamaretto League Premier Division.

It was the Robins’ fourth straight defeat and leaves Paul West’s side just five points above the drop zone.

Michael Hayden’s penalty miss at the start of the second-half was punished by the Railwaymen, who grabbed the winner through Philip John with eight minutes left.

A largely forgettable first-half saw little in the way of goalmouth action. But, six minutes after the re-start, Evesham blew a golden opportunity to take the lead.

Jamie Hyde burst into the visitors’ box only to be brought down by Ian Samson. Hayden’s spot-kick, however, was easily pushed aside by keeper Matthew Trott.

Danny Lennon then rattled the bar and Leon Woodley got behind the Didcot defence but no colleague was on hand to put away the cross.

Out of the blue, Didcot snatched the game’s only goal.

Evesham United: Vaughan, Watson (Costello 73), Hyde, Hodnett, Steve Hands, Lutz, Woodley, Lennon, Palmer, Mark Hands, Hayden (Cooper 82). Subs not used: Ager, Gould, Mace.

Attendance: 136.
