PERSHORE Cricket Club captain Lee Wilks scooped the senior male sports personality of the year at the Wychavon District Council awards.
All the winners at Pershore’s Civic Centre head to the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Partnership presentation next month.
Wilks led his record-breaking Pershore side to the Crusader Worcestershire League Division One title last year with more than 700 runs and vital wickets.
They were undefeated with the highest number of points in the league’s history.
The cricket club achieved another feat as women’s player Naomi Heywood scooped the senior female personality gong.
She also turns out for Worcestershire and is assistant coach for three of the county girls’ squads, as well as playing football for Pershore Town Women.
Pershore Swimming Club ace Tazmin Pugh claimed the junior female personality of the year accolade.
Also a talented athlete, Pugh enjoyed a fantastic year, winning the National ISA School Championships and setting a new record.
She was the third nine-year-old fastest girl in the UK in Amateur Swimming Association records and is ranked first nationally in five events.
Junior male sports personality of the year went to Frampton Sailing Club’s Edward Higson.
The keen dinghy sailor competes at national level and won the spring and summer junior series at his club.
Coach of the year went to Evesham Rowing Club’s Martin Davies, who has successfully tutored the junior boys for five years.
His squad achieved 21 wins and the best crew finished in the top five at three national finals.
Evesham Rowing Club also claimed junior club team of the year.
They racked up 93 wins, six national medals and nine international vests for Great Britain and England.
Club of the year also went to the Evesham outfit, who have become one of the country’s most successful clubs after losing many of their boats to the floods of 2007.
While winning 153 races at national and local level, their first disabled rower, Scott Ballard-Ridley, represented them at the British Indoor Rowing Championships.
Ballard-Ridley was the disabled sports personality after battling back from a brain haemorrhage which put him in hospital for 15 months, leaving him 90 per cent blind and with reduced mobility.
Volunteer of the year went to the rowing club’s Mark Dewdney, who has been an influential member for 20 years and presides over all of the squads as well as organising their popular regatta.
Young volunteer of the year went to Stratford Athletic Club shot and javelin thrower Elizabeth Grinnell.
She helps with sports activities, dance projects in Pershore and fundraises for children with disabilities.
Littleton Football Club’s Colin Emms bagged the outstanding contribution award.
Emms has been with the club for more than 50 years as a player, manager, committee member, club secretary and now chairman.
He is a qualified groundsman and raises funds for the teams.
FA charter status club Crowle Searchers took the Sport England community sports award.
They were founded three years ago as the first junior football club in the village for more than 20 years.
The school sports award went to Blackminster Middle School under 13s girls’ table tennis team.
They finished second in the national schools finals and won the Worcestershire equivalent.
The contribution to physical activity award went to Colin Tether, the founder of Evesham Vale Running Club.
He was the main organiser of the popular Evesham 10km race.
