BLACK Pear Joggers picked up the club of the year trophy at the annual City of Worcester Sports Awards at Worcestershire County Cricket Club’s Graeme Hick Pavilion.
The Joggers have doubled their membership to 300 in the past two years and attract more than 120 runners every Monday and Thursday evening to their training sessions.
They also provide a marathon preparation session on Sunday mornings which is also open to non-members.
The senior personality of the year awards went to Worcester Canoe Club’s Sue Hawthorn for her work in junior coaching, while long-serving ju-jitsu coach, Ross Iannoccaro, received the male trophy.
Worcester Hon YoSo Kai Karate member Katrina Wilson, a four-time European champion, was named junior female of the year and rugby player Matt Kvesic, of Worcester Warriors, took the male equivalent.
Kvesic is the youngest player in the Sixways club’s history to make a first-team appearance and is captain of the England Under 18s side.
The awards were presented by Worcester-based blind footballer Ajmal Ahmed, who has represented England and Great Britain, and the mayor of Worcester, Andy Roberts.
