Turner quiet over future at United

HEREFORD United chairman Graham Turner is remaining tight-lipped on the subject of the club’s new manager.

The Bulls are searching for only their third different boss in 15 years following the departure of John Trewick earlier this week.

Turner, who stood down at the end of last season, takes charge of the team for tomorrow night’s crucial League Two clash at Lincoln City (7.45).

But the ex-Wolves manager is giving little away when it comes to his successor despite admitting he does not expect to be in the role beyond the end of the current campaign.

Former Aston Villa captain Shaun Teale, who led Burscough to the FA Trophy in 2003, has already thrown his hat into the ring and the job is likely to attract a lot of interest.

Other possible candidates include former Chester City boss, Hereford-based Jim Harvey, while Dean Holdsworth has impressed by taking Newport County to the brink of promotion to the Conference.

Hereford, though, need to put the issue to one side as they attempt to secure three precious points at Sincil Bank after losing four of their last five games.

United bid to complete the double over Chris Sutton’s side after winning the reverse fixture 2-0 at Edgar Street last month through Gavin McCallum’s brace.

Tomorrow night’s match carries extra poignancy as it is Lincoln’s first home game since the death of popular former boss Keith Alexander.

He was also remembered by a one-minute silence at Hereford last Saturday when the Bulls lost 2-0 to Macclesfield, the team Alexander managed.

Full-back Ryan Valentine could be fit to face Lincoln, while striker Mathieu Manset and winger Matt Done impressed with goals for the reserves in a 2-1 mid-week win over Coventry.

Illness has prevented midfielder Kenny Lunt from training and also delayed talks over a contract dispute.

Lunt was left out against Macclesfield amid suggestions another appearance would trigger a clause entitling him to another 12-month deal.

Turner’s only other injury concern is defender Keith Lowe, who is struggling with an ankle problem.

The Bulls’ chairman is looking to bring in new players before the transfer deadline later this month.
