WORCESTERSHIRE pool players suffered defeat in their bid to be crowned the best in England.
The county ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams failed to qualify from the group stages of the inter-county competition in Great Yarmouth.
The ‘A’ team were beaten 23-8 by Lancashire and 23-17 by London, while the ‘B’ team lost 23-7 to Bristol and 23-18 against London. In each section, Londoners won the titles.
Phil Green, Worcester County Pool Association secretary, said: “We were confident but it was bit of a learning curve, especially for the ‘B’ team who had qualified for the first time.”
But Scott Surridge, the top-ranked player in the country, lost a deciding frame to miss out on securing a place in the England team.
Andy MacDonald, Deb Farr, Hayley Lundberg and Sarah Nicklin also failed to earn call-ups.
Worcestershire’s next match is at home to Buckinghamshire on Sunday, April 11.
