EVESHAM Rowing Club members enjoyed glittering success at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Partnership awards last night.
Inspirational Paralympic hopeful Scott Ballard-Ridley, who was left 90 per cent blind and with reduced mobility after a brain haemorrhage, claimed the disabled sports personality accolade.
Hard-working Martin Davies claimed coach of the year and the club’s talented young rowers scooped the junior team gong at Sixways, home of Worcester Warriors.
The host city’s sole success went to City of Worcester Gymnastics Club’s dedicated Jessica Lugsdin, who was young volunteer of the year.
Former Olympic swimmer Todd Cooper, of Kidderminster, was the main speaker, while there were a string of well-known local sports stars presenting the prizes.
All the winners, senior male sports personality: Stan Cantrill (Leominster Judo Club); senior female sports personality: Helen Russell (Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletics Club); junior male sports personality: Ben Colley (North Bromsgrove High School — basketball); junior female sports personality: Carla Link (Stourport High School — ultimate frisbee); coach: Martin Davies (Evesham Rowing Club); contribution to physical activity: Hayley Gwilliam (Redditch Borough Council); disabled sports personality: Scott Ballard-Ridley (Evesham Rowing Club); club: Keep on Moving Disability Sports Club, Bromsgrove; junior club team: Evesham Rowing Club; volunteer: Elizabeth Prater (Redditch Lifesaving Club); young volunteer: Jessica Lugsdin (City of Worcester Gymnastics Club); school sports award: North Bromsgrove High School under 16s boys’ basketball team; outstanding contribution: Colin Emms (Littleton Football Club); community sports award: Kidderminster and Stourport Athletics Club; special award: Special Olympics Redditch.
