AS expected, St George’s have retained their Worcester League Division One title, but Hartlebury Wanderers did their utmost to try and dent the champions’ unblemished season.
Lewis Siket retained his 100 per cent track record, as befits the triple county champion, and his son, Michael, was also in good form, reversing his first half defeats to Chris Webb and Will Pritchard.
There was a surprise, though, as the Sikets lost their unbeaten doubles crown to Webb and Prichard.
However, this was not enough to deny St George’s the overall victory and the ultimate prize.
St George’s final match of the campaign was against their club-mates, the Dragons, who could unfortunately field only two players, thus helping to ensure a comfortable ride for the champions.
Steve Mills and Shafaz Ditta both did well to account for Dale Dickenson.
Previously, a rare defeat was inflicted upon Rainbow by the Wanderers.
A true team effort from the visitors saw Pritchard take three, Webb two and Brett Holyman one and they also won the doubles.
It was only the efforts of Rainbow’s most successful player, Pete Griffiths, that enabled them to earn a point at all, as he just managed to overcome Webb 11-8, 12-14, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8 in the final event of the evening.
Broadheath Belters’ Brett Brining did all he could against YMCA Falcons, comfortably winning his three singles and the doubles with Pete Stevens.
However, it was all in vain as John Stalker, Jim Ahern and Pat Murray won two each to claim the match for the Falcons.
Dave Rothero, Ray Rennison and John Rowe all notched up a single win for Himbleton ‘A’ and augmented it with the doubles, but this was not enough to resist Jostekeropa’s Rob Sinderberry and Paul Smythe, who were both unbeaten in the singles on the night.
