Sheffield Sharks 90 Worcester Wolves 62

6:30pm Sunday 21st March 2010

SHARKS kept pace with Newcastle Eagles at the top of the BBL Championship with this home win over the Worcester Wolves.

Sheffield were led by Ryan Patton’s 28 points, while Matt Gorman scored 18 points and snatched 12 rebounds.

Wolves’ Danny Gilbert led all scorers with 32 points, but indicative of the visitor’s night was the fact that no one else scored in double figures. They were, however, missing Rod Middleton and Harry Disy.

There were six lead chan-ges early on as neither side could establish a foothold in the first six minutes.

From there, Wolves posted an 8-2 break to lead 13-19 heading into the final minute of the first period.

But, from having scored just two baskets in five minutes, the Sharks recovered with five points inside the last 38 seconds as Patton hit a three-pointer on the buzzer to see them just one point in arrears at 18-19.

That momentum was carried into the second period in a major way, most noticeably with Patton hitting two more threes as the Sharks turned it round to lead 43-31.

Gilbert hit a three-pointer on the buzzer, but the Wolves were too reliant on him in the first-half – he had 17 points, their second highest scorer had four.

The Sharks were not troubled in the fourth quarter as they saw the game out comfortably.
