WARRIORS director of rugby John Brain is planning to add another four players to his squad before next season.

Brain is pleased with the progress of his current squad and is not planning major surgery in the summer.

"I think as a team we are developing reasonably well," he said. "We've got quite a number of injured players, particularly in our back three, at the moment.

"We've gone from being a forward-orientated team last season to being a team where our back three have scored nearly 20 tries.

"We have moved on. I think we are able to play a rounded game. What we have to do is play that rounded game and win more often using that 15-man approach.

"But I think we are well capable of doing that and with some sharp recruitment we can continue to develop in that regard."

Brain has already signed scrum-half Ryan Powell, hooker Ben Gotting, prop Darren Morris and full-back Lee Best and will continue to fine-tune his side before the new campaign.

"We have already brought in four and there will probably be at least another four," he said. "But that's in a squad of 34. It's not a high turnover. We're happy with most of the guys that we've got and we'll continue to keep the squad together."

Skipper Pat Sanderson agrees that Worcester are heading in the right direction.

He said: "When you look at the kind of rugby we are playing now compared to the kind of rugby we were playing last year, it's significantly different.

"It's far more rounded, it's far more organised, the defence is far better and I think what we need to do now is continue along the same path.

"The league table is one yardstick but you have also got to look at the long-term plan and where we are going."

n Worcester's Under 17 side received a boost ahead of tomorrow's National Cup final match when Brain and head coach Anthony Eddy took time out from training the first team to pass on some advice.

The Under 17s face Gloucestershire side Gordon League at Sixways, having beaten Rugby Lions, Moseley and Wolverhampton in the knock-out stages before defeating northern champions Wilmslow in the semi-final.
