DIRECTOR of cricket Steve Rhodes admitted that letting Somerset score more than 400 in their first innings was "a bitter pill to swallow".

He said: "We won the toss on a wicket that we thought would be quite helpful and we were looking to bowl them out for around 240, so that was a big disappointment when they got over 400.

"We bowled really well in their second innings, but unfortunately that was our only highlight of the game. Letting them get to 400 was a bitter pill to swallow, but I don't think we batted at all well in our first innings.

"We threw away our wickets which was sad. Daryl Mitchell dug deep -- he had quite a bit of luck, he'll admit to that -- but he showed a lot of guts and determination to bat for 50 overs out there.

"However, I'd like to take my hat off to Zaheer Khan -- he bowled beautifully. To get 10 wickets in the game and finish on the losing side is a huge disappointment for him.

"I'm sure he would have rather taken less wickets but been on the winning side."
