WARRIORS director of rugby John Brain believes the stylish rugby which lit up his side's 35-27 victory over Newcastle could become a regular feature next season.

Brain has been trying to develop the team into a more expansive outfit during the current campaign and he thinks they can be attractive and successful at the same time next term.

"I think we've developed the way we play a bit," he said. "Certainly, Newcastle thought if they threw it around they could cut us to pieces but actually I thought we played some pretty good running 15-man rugby.

"We want to compete with the best in this league and to do that you've got to have a rounded game.

"We are not quite there yet but I think we have achieved as many wins as we did last year and three more points.

"But we have got to continue to play that style of rugby (next season) and win more than nine matches."

Last season, Warriors based their game around a powerful forward pack and dominance in the set-piece but Brain has been trying to make them less predictable.

He said: "We have been conscious of the fact that people can't play against Worcester with just the agenda of stopping our forwards and stopping Thomas Lombard.

"We have got to develop our game so that we have got what some people refer to as an all-court game.

"That's where we have moved on. But we have still got a lot more development to do to play that type of rugby and win more matches."

After making a superb start to the new season, Worcester struggled after Christmas and Saturday's win was only their third in the Premiership in 2006.

"It was our last home game of the season," said Brain. "The most important thing was to win and get a good win.

"They came with a clear agenda of getting five points but we played some good rugby and deserved to win.

"Probably in the last four or five weeks, we've played some pretty good rugby but -- as can happen so often in this league -- you can come out at the end with a loss just as easily as you can come out with a win.

"The results have been dismal but I don't think our performances have changed very much throughout the season."
