WORCESTER Nomads will never forget the contribution of Bill Jones to their cricket club.

After playing a significant role in developing the set-up at Bransford before passing away in November 2004, his name now lives on with the retitled Bill Jones Memorial Pavilion.

As well as being a rugby player with Worcester and Malvern and a keen boxer, Bill was involved heavily with community projects.

But cricket was his main love and he was secretary of Worcestershire Cricket Association for 20 years alongside his involvement with the Worcestershire Association of Groundsmen.

Bill played for Old Vigornians for 26 years and then moved on to Nomads in 1980 while also representing the Fossils, county senior sides, the Midlands Club Conference and Upton.

Born in 1933, he was brought up in the Arboretum and Lowesmoor, attending St Mary's Primary School and King's School, Worcester.

He was instrumental in the funding and building of the pavilion extension at the King's ground in New Road.

Bill joined his son Malcolm at Nomads and helped raise around £100,000 for the club but also supported other teams in obtaining grants and National Lottery cash.

Nomads were able to extend their ground after four years of hard graft which culminated in six new pitches added to the existing square.
