AN England women's footballer is making a guest appearance at a grass-roots football tournament in Worcester on Sunday.
Leeds United FC and England midfielder Sue Smith will be the main guest of honour when 12 teams from across the county meet in the Worcestershire Charter Standard Clubs' World Cup Festival.
The tournament is also timed to coincide with the official opening of the Perdiswell Soccer Skills Centre.
The £900,000 venue received a £600,000 grant from the Football Foundation and includes six revamped grass pitches, two new astro-turf pitches, eight new changing rooms, two referee changing rooms and first-aid facilities.
Organiser Peter Shaw said: "It should be a fantastic day with around 300 kids taking part in the football tournament and making use of the great facilities we can now offer in Worcester.
"We are also very fortunate that Sue Smith is joining us for the day. She's a very experienced player, having represented England 56 times, and is also very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about grass-roots football."
Registration for the event starts at 10am on Sunday with the first match then kicking off at 10.30.
There are three competitions -- for mixed teams under 10s, boys' under 12s and girls' under 12s.
There are still two spaces available for the girls' under 12s tournament and anyone interested can call Peter Shaw on 01905-722317.
