NEW Worcestershire signing Lou Vincent believes he can add a spark to the County's top order and is also hoping to produce some fireworks in the Twenty20 Cup.

The Kiwi opener, who has signed a short-term deal at New Road, will replace Phil Jaques, who is heading back to Australia to play for his country's `A' side in the Top End Series in Darwin.

Jaques leaves for Australia later this month and will be away for five weeks, while Vincent will arrive on June 21 and play his first game in the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy against Yorkshire, at New Road, four days later.

Left-hander Jaques has been a revelation at Worcestershire, but Vincent, who has played 22 Tests and 83 one-day internationals, is confident he can make an impression on the fans and is looking forward to getting started.

He said: "The Twenty20 Cup is something I can hardly wait to start. It's an outstanding competition and so big in England now.

"It's like the rugby and soccer matches -- fans turn up for a few hours instead spending all day at the ground and really get involved.

"The crowd really get into it and the interest is always there. I think I've probably picked the perfect time to come over and have a bash."

"I'm really excited about moving to Worcester. Any young cricketer wants to come over to England and play a county stint at some point. It's a long-term dream for me.

"The interest from Worcester came out of the blue really. The club obviously knew Phil Jaques was going and were looking for an aggressive opening bat -- I knew I was the man for them when my agent told me they were keen."

Vincent has played local league cricket for Rochdale in the past, but is hoping to take a lot more out of his stint with Worcestershire and has high hopes of regaining his spot in the New Zealand side.

"I played league cricket a few years back," he added.

"It wasn't the best standard in the world. There were some short boundaries and big scores, but it helped me learn about different conditions and wickets. It was a great six months at Rochdale and I'm sure my spell at New Road will be just as much fun.

"Obviously, county cricket is not as exciting as international cricket, but it is invaluable in my eyes.

"I've missed out on the Test side recently, which is disappointing because my last few innings were a 50 and then 224 against Sri Lanka.

"I was a bit bemused to be dropped from the side to be honest, but by coming to England I can show what I am capable of and get back in.

"I feel in good nick and hopefully I can keep that going and score some runs for Worcester."
