WORCESTER Triathlon Club athlete Daniel Keen produced another excellent performance at the prestigious Royal Windsor Triathlon.

Keen racing in the shorter sprint triathlon held before the elite longer distance race helped Keen to see off almost 300 competitors to win the overall race as well as his age group category.

The event is held in and around the grounds of Windsor Castle and the youngster showed no sign of nerves by emerging from the 750-metre open water swim just over a minute down on the leaders.

Keen then set off on the challenging bike course and managed to reduce the deficit to the two remaining leaders to just under a minute when starting the five kilometre run.

Showing excellent strength and speed, Keen breezed past the leaders and was soon putting a sizeable gap between himself and the chasing pack, finally winning the overall race by more than tow minutes in a total time of one hour 22 minutes and 22 seconds.

Keen recorded the fastest overall run split of the 300 athletes taking part.

Elsewhere it was a busy weekend for members of Worcester Tri Club competing at various races.

Roger Day, racing in the Wantage Triathlon, claimed second place in the male super veteran category (33rd overall) in a time of two hours 21 minutes and 50 seconds.

Roger's daughter, Marianne finished 10th in the senior female race (2.30.36) while James Browning was 14th in the senior male race.

More than 800 competitors took part in the Shropshire Triathlon at Ellesmere and Worcester Tri Club's Jonny Stephens finished 10th in his age group and a respectable 41st overall.

He covered the 1,500m lake swim 40km bike and 10km run course in two hours three minutes and 26 seconds. Phil Parsons (2.05.47) was 16th in his age group, 66th overall.

Ken Barber (2.36.48) was 27th in age group and 453rd in the overall race.

Monica Hardwick completed the course in an excellent time of 2.47.58 placing her eighth in her age group and 131st in the ladies race overall.

Also competing in the citizens or non-BTA wave was Rachel Ward. Rachel finished sixth in the ladies race over the same course in a time of 2.40.00 exactly.

Meanwhile, Worcester Tri Club organised its inaugural children's duathlon at the University of Worcester.

Youngsters from eight to 14-years-old competed and there was also a youth race for 15 and 16-year-olds.

The race was part of the West Midlands Children's Series and hopefully Worcester Tri Club will stage the race again in 2007.
