GOALKEEPER Scott Bevan has put pen to paper on a one-year deal with Kidderminster Harriers -- completing a remarkable recovery from a horror injury.

The former Southampton and MK Dons stopper received national exposure for the best and worst of reasons last season while on loan at Tamworth.

He put in memorable performances in The Lambs' FA Cup run, which included two ties against Stoke City, but his career and life was turned upside down when he sustained a serious kidney injury in a league fixture at Forest Green in January.

After undergoing an operation to remove a kidney that left many thinking the youngster would never play competitive football again, Bevan has shown remarkable resilience to once again make himself available.

Bevan agreed his Aggborough deal late on Monday evening -- the same day that the club snapped up ex-Premiership striker Dean Sturridge.

The 26-year-old Bevan, who is 6ft 7ins tall, will compete with fellow new arrival Steve Taylor for next season's number one shirt.

The Southampton-born 'keeper began his career with his hometown club after joining them on trainee terms in 1997.

Despite not making the breakthrough to the first team, he was never short of experience after going out on loan to a number of clubs, including Woking, Wycombe and Huddersfield Town.

It was at Huddersfield in the 2002/03 season that Bevan made his first real impact, putting in 30 appearances. In March 2004, Bevan was signed on a free transfer by MK Dons, and made 19 appearances.

Meanwhile, Sturridge insists he still has a point to prove despite playing in the top leagues for most of his career.

The 32-year-old striker said: "I'm still always looking to improve as a player and I'll always listen to people if they feel they have any suggestions on how I can do that and likewise I'll be all-ears for anyone who needs to ask for advice.

"I know a lot about Kidderminster and its history as a football club and I'm really looking forward to contributing something of my own.

"Kim Casey was an absolutely monumental striker that I admired when he played here.

"He's a player that could easily have played at a much higher level but he wanted to stay with kidderminster to keep scoring goals for the club.

"He contributed a lot and I'm looking forward to making my own contribution now."
