TEAMWORK was the order of the day as The Lenches registered a crushing 186-run victory over Colwall.

They racked up 302 runs for the loss of seven wickets and then skittled Colwall out for 116 in their division seven match to capture the team of the week prize.

"It was a real team effort," said skipper Charles Brooks. "Nobody made more than 50.

"Colwall is a really good batting track. They won the toss and decided to field and we wondered what was going on because if we had won the toss, we would have batted.

"It was not really an exciting batting performance but everybody made a contribution,"

Opener Dave Selvey set them on their way with 29 runs but the best batting display came from 19-year-old James Protherough, who came in at number seven and managed an unbeaten 49.

If one individual did excel, it was Alex Reading who managed 37 with the bat and then took 6-39 with the ball from 12 overs with three maidens.

"He was the one who stood out," said Brooks. "But it was very much an all-round performance. They are second in the league but at this level it's a case of who you can get out there.

"I was lucky to get a really good side out. I batted at number 11 and I had two 50s last season.

"Cricket in The Lenches only really got going last season and hopefully days like that will help it be succesfull."

The Lenches win a box of six cricket balls valued at £90.
