FATHER-and-son pairing Lewis and Michael Siket both claimed a trio of titles at the Worcester Table Tennis League Championships, held at Bishop Perowne CofE College.

The duo went head-to-head in the final of the men’s singles with Siket Snr prevailing after a real battle.

Michael won the first game 11-9, before Lewis won the second 12-10 and the third, after a tremendous exchange of hard drives, 21-19.

After such a highly-charged game, Michael succumbed to the pressure, winning only one point in the fourth game, but he was the only person to take a game off Lewis on the day.

Lewis also won the veterans’ singles when he saw off Ian Bell 11-5, 11-2, 11-6 in the final.

The Sikets then teamed up for the men’s doubles and triumphed 11-6, 11-4, 14-12 over John Stalker and Brett Brining.

Siket Junior’s successes came in the Tyler Cup — a handicap event — which is always a hard event to win for the players with the lowest handicap and Michael played off scratch.

His hardest game was against Shafaz Ditta, who was on (+7) up to 21 points.

Michael won 21-19, 18-21, 21-18.

He then beat Steve Mills (+5) 21-11, 21-17 and in the final he saw off Brining (+2) 21-13, 21-13.

His next success was in the intermediate singles where he beat Matt White 11-5, 11-5 11-8 and Ditta 11-6, 11-7, 11-5 to claim the title.

The Doug Young Cup (second division singles) was won by John Cawthra, who beat White 11-1, 11-9, 9-11, 7-11, 11-8 in the final.

The veterans’ singles handicap saw John Stalker (+2) beat Charlie Burford (+8) in the final 21-12, 21-18.

The veterans’ doubles, where players draw for their partners, was won by Cawthra and Beryl Shammon, who beat Stalker and Dave Bradley 11-7, 8-11, 11-4, 6-11, 11-9 in the final.

The Charities Doubles, also a draw-for-partner event, was won by Paul Smyth and Ditta.

They beat Richard Cullis and White 11-7, 11-2, 11-8 in the final.
