KIDDERMINSTER Harriers goal poacher Brian Smikle has signed for Cheltenham Town.

The 24-year-old winger, who netted 12 times in the Blue Square Premier this season, has agreed a one-year deal with the League Two side.

His departure to Whaddon Road sees him link up again with former Harriers manager Mark Yates and assistant Neil Howarth.

Smikle was offered new terms following nearly four years at Aggborough but has opted to take a step up.

Harriers boss Steve Burr turns his attention to finding a replacement as he continues to assemble his squad for the 2010/11 campaign.

Keeper Danny Lewis and right-back Lee Vaughan have already signed up for next season and Burr is in talks with several targets, including Stalybridge Celtic midfielder Keith Briggs.

But the manager is biding his time before making decisions on players still under contract at Aggborough.

He said: “There are a couple of contracts that do not run out until the end of June, so that does give us the scope to deal with one or two things when the time is right.

“With regards to the other lads, if other offers come their way that they feel are too good to turn down then they have to look after themselves in that respect.

“We are looking at players and getting a lot of calls. We’ve missed out on a couple of targets but have also got in a couple as well.”

Meanwhile, former Worcester City defender Matt Gardiner is the new manager at Redditch United with ex-City midfielder John Snape his second in command.
