DARYL Mitchell was delighted to score his maiden home LV= County Championship century as Worcestershire enjoyed a fine opening day against Derbyshire at New Road.
The vice-captain fell two runs short of his 150, but his fourth Championship ton was his first on home soil as the County closed on 376-3.
“All centuries are special, but to score one in front of your own supporters gives it a little bit extra,” he said.
“We now have to kick on and get a big score and put ourselves in a position where we don’t lose the game.”
With Mitchell top scoring on the day with 148, Australian opener Phil Jaques ended his dismal run of form with a flowing 92.
Alexei Kervezee (66 not out) returns this morning looking to score his maiden century having fallen one short in his last Championship match at Leicestershire.
