A QUARTET of county schools took part in the West Mercia tag rugby tournament at Police HQ at Hindlip, near Worcester.
The primary schools taking part were Oldbury Park and Lyppard Grange, from Worcester, Malvern’s Northleigh Primary School and Cookley Sebright Primary, from near Kidderminster.
It was the next step on the road to Twickenham for the teams who had made it through their qualifying events. They were watched and refereed by England international rugby player and Yazoo Tag Rugby ambassador Sarah Hunter.
Six teams were selected to take part in the West Midlands tournament, organised by the Rugby Football Union, which will take place in Dudley on June 17.
The top teams there go forward to the national final with a chance for the winners to appear at Twickenham next season before an England international.
West Mercia Police has been developing its tag rugby initiative for nearly three years in partnership with the RFU and Child Victims of Crime (CVOC), the charity supported by the police.
