IN a bid to keep his World Cup dream alive, Warriors centre Alex Grove is set to quit the club in favour of a year-long loan deal with Edinburgh.

The Sixways outfit have been in discussions with the Scottish Rugby Union and it has been made apparent Grove would struggle to make Andy Robinson’s squad for the 2011 Rugby World Cup if he is playing in the Cham-pionship.

Therefore, Worcester have decided to take a long-term view and allow Grove, who is contracted to the club until the end of next season, to pursue his dream.

It is understood that Grove has agreed to move to the Scottish capital for a year and return to Worcester after the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, or immediately be-fore it should he not force his way into Robinson’s plans.

A statement from the Sixways club said: “Worcester Warriors can confirm it is in discussion with the SRU and Scotland head coach Andy Robinson in relation to Alex Grove’s potential involvement in the Rugby World Cup 2011.

“Alex’s long-term future remains with Worcester War-riors. His attitude off the pitch and ability on it makes him an important part of our future. Alex has spoken to the chairman to reiterate his long-term commitment and desire to extend his contract at Sixways in the near future.

“However, given the opportunity for Alex to play at the Rugby World Cup 2011 for Scotland, the club is speaking to all parties regarding his options and the possibility of a loan agreement for next season.”

Following Worcester’s relegation from the Guinness Premiership, the 22-year-old outside-centre, who scored four tries in Warriors’ final four games of the season, insisted he would stand by the club that gave him his big break.

However, he added the caveat that he would have to consult with Scotland bosses to see how playing in the Championship would affect his international ambitions.

Grove, who qualifies for Scotland through his Glas-gow-born grandfather Ron Wylie — a former Aston Villa footballer and manager — is expected to join up with the Edinburgh squad when he returns from his nation’s tour to Argentina.

Meanwhile, Worcester have confirmed that the north stand will be returning to Sixways for the forthcoming Championship campaign.

Rumours had surfaced that the temporary stand would be dispensed with as part of a post-relegation cost-cutting exercise. FragranceMad.com, however, have stepped in to sponsor the stand next term.
