RIVER conditions and the weather were perfect for Worcester Rowing Club’s annual spring regatta.

Visiting crews and spectators were treated to an action-packed day as crews battled it out over the 750-metre course.

The first win of five for the host club came in the women’s intermediate coxed four as Kate Lewington-Williams, Fiona Watson, Helen Watts, Robyn Hill and cox Lottie Wootton beat rivals Ross Rowing Club by three-and-a-half lengths.

One of the highlights of the day came in the women’s novice coxed four event where the city club’s Vicky Jones, Rebecca Mosedale, Kerry Owen, Dinah Thompson and cox Lizzie Fuller claimed their first ever win.

On their way to the final, the Worcester four beat the University of Worcester and another Worcester RC crew.

In the final, they met opposition from Cheltenham College, but held on to beat them by a length.

In the men’s intermediate three eights, the Worcester crew of Luke Almond, Adam Grant, Tim Pawsey, Sam Tustain, Chris Barratt, Rory Bagnall, Callum Leatherdale, Alex Busby and cox Anne O’Connell beat local rivals Stourport by half-a-length in a nail-biting race.

Worcester’s masters ‘C’ coxed four of Andy Greenway, Jim Swann, Nick Phillips, Rich Heath and cox Hill also won their event by beating Ross RC.

The only win of the day from the hosts’ junior section came from Jack Furniss in the junior 15 single sculls.

Meanwhile, King’s School Worcester went home with a number of wins in the junior events.
