SHAAIQ Choudhry has signed a full-time contract at New Road after impressing during his eight-week trial with Worcestershire.

The slow left-arm spinner made his first class debut at Sussex last month where he scored an impressive 63 and claimed the wicket of Ed Joyce.

Since that match the Yorkshireman has been playing in the second team for the County and has acted as 12th man in the last to Friends Provident t20 matches at Lancashire Lightning and Leicestershire Foxes.

The former Warwickshire second team player has penned a deal that will see him remain at New Road until the end of next season.

Director of cricket Steve Rhodes, said: "We have been looking for a young English left arm spinner for some time and I am pleased with the progress that Shaaiq has made in recent weeks.

"This contract will give him the confidence to settle in with the club during the remainder of this season and through the winter."
