WORCESTER City trailist Rhys Walton was among the scorers as a stirring second-half display saw off Malvern Town.

Goals from Matt Birley, Marc McGregor, Mark Danks, Rob Elvins and Tom Thorley added to Walton’s strike to take the honours for City.

Carl Heeley’s side took the lead on 10 minutes through a Birley effort. However, hosts Malvern equalised nine minutes later when a Craig Selby header beat City goalkeeper Tim Sandercombe.

Then it was former Grimsby Town trialist Walton’s turn to restore his side’s lead on 24 minutes when the Football CV Academy forward struck.

City made a host of substitutions at the interval which included the introduction of Shabir Khan, McGregor and Elvins. These changes led to the visitors dominating the second period and finding the Malvern net four times.

McGregor got the second-half scoring under way for the Blue Square Bet North side in the 51st minute.

This was followed by Danks making it 4-1 six minutes later to further dent any hopes of county neighbours Malvern making a comeback.

Elvins fired City’s fifth with 22 minutes remaining but gave away a penalty in the 77th minute.

Ricky Halion scored from the rebound after Sandercombe had made an initial save.

But new signing Thorley added insult to injury for the Midland Alliance side when he fired his side’s sixth two minutes from time.

Worcester’s home friendly with Bath City tomorrow night has had to be postponed after the visitors said they could not field a side.

City chiefs revealed they are still trying to arrange a home friendly for tomorrow night as a last-minute replacement.

If they are unable to arrange an alternative, City will welcome AFC Liverpool to St George’s Lane on Saturday (3pm) for their next friendly.
