WORCESTER rower Tom Clark was on the podium once again at the under 23 World Championships in Brest, Belarus.

The 21-year-old was part of the Great Britain crew in the coxed four event.

They were narrowly beaten into the bronze medal position by Germany, who pipped them at the line by about half-a-length.

The GB team had held second position at the 1,500-metre mark.

Clark, a former RGS Worcester pupil and rower, was delighted. He said: “I have been injured for a large part of the season and at one point wondered if I would get selected at all, so this was a fantastic result for us.

“There was some really stiff competition and I think we did much better than many people expected.

“For the first time this year, I have received some Lottery funding, which has made a big difference in the amount of time I can give to training”.

Clark, who won a National Championship medal while still at RGS, was part of a bronze medal-winning VIII at last year’s championships in the Czech Republic and has his sights firmly set on the men’s senior squad in due course.

He added: “The 2012 Games would be fantastic, but, more realistically, I’m eyeing up a trip to Rio in 2016.”

He is currently training at the world famous Leander Club in Henley-on-Thames and with the GB squad at the Pinsent-Redgrave Lake, near Reading.

He also works part-time in his own business refurbishing indoor rowing machines.
