HEREFORD United’s preparations for the new season move up a gear tonight as they host Plymouth Argyle at Edgar Street in their penultimate warm-up match (7.45).

The Bulls have won all five of their friendlies to date and only have a trip to Neath to come on Saturday before their npower League Two campaign kicks off against Crewe on August 7.

Following last Tuesday’s 2-1 win at AFC Telford and the 7-0 thrashing of village side Lydbrook Athletic, in which striker Stuart Fleetwood scored a hat-trick, League One outfit Plymouth will provide Simon Davey’s men with a sterner test.

The Hereford manager said: “We are still in the building process getting match fitness but it’s another game along the way.

“We are making sure the players are gelling together, understand their roles and what I expect of them.

“We are trying to bed a system in and get the players used to each other.”

With only 10 days to go until the 2010/11 season starts, the Hereford manager is putting the finishing touches to his squad.

The former Barnsley boss, who replaced Graham Turner, already has 17 players signed up and plans to bring in three more, the first of which could be in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Westfields manager Sean Edwards has added two more signings to his squad and both are expected to make their home debuts in Saturday’s Dennis Hartland Memorial Trophy match against Zamaretto League Premier Division side Swindon Supermarine at allpay.park.

Robbie Aldridge has signed from Gloucester City and he is joined by fellow defender Joel Edwards, 18, who was released by neighbours Hereford United.

“Both these players are a tremendous boost to Westfields and our squad is beginning to look very strong as we go into our two home friendlies,” said Sean Edwards, whose side also entertain Slimbridge next Tuesday evening.

Westfields go into the matches on the back of an impressive 2-0 win at Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division outfit Fairford Town.

The Herefordshire side took a 1-0 half-time lead through winger Carl Morgan.

After the break, Westfields doubled their tally through Troy Wood’s penalty.

Former Worcester City and Malvern Town striker Wood is currently on trial at the Midland Alliance club as he bids to win a deal.

Fairford tried hard to get back into the match but Westfields’ defence, marshalled by Scott Jackson, withstood the home side’s pressure.
