WORCESTER Rowing Club enjoyed a successful Bewdley Regatta, winning an impressive 10 titles at the annual two-day event.

Competing over the longer course on the first day, Worcester’s women got off to a fine start by claiming the intermediate ‘three’ eights.

On their way to the final, they defeated crews from Llandaff and Sheffield City RC, before beating City of Oxford RC for the crown.

The crew consisted of Rosanne Eardley, Kerry Owen, Lisa Chalkley, Steph Fishwick, Rebecca Mosedale, Fran Hawkes, Frauke Jung, Vicki Jones and cox Charlotte Wootton.

The women’s squad followed this by winning the intermediate ‘three’ coxed fours, beating another team from Worcester in the final.

The veteran section of the club was also successful, claiming three victories, the first coming in the masters ‘F’ quad.

Ashley Roberts, Martin Doughty, Mike Haigh and Mike Smart beat local rivals Bewdley in the semi-final and went on to defeat Bewdley/Hong Kong RC in the final by two lengths.

Martin Rhodes continued his winning form with success against Burton Leander in the final of the masters ‘F’ single sculls.

Rhodes pushed hard off the start to set the pace and coped well with the tricky conditions to win by a comfortable distance.

This was the second victory in two weeks for Rhodes, who also won at Burton-on-Trent Regatta.

Worcester’s junior section also took away the silverware in the women’s junior 14 double sculls.

Grace Baker and Izzy Friedlander had a bye to the final where they met host club Bewdley.

After a poor start, Baker and Friedlander worked hard to get back on terms with their opposition, who had edged out to lead by a length.

However, the Worcester duo dug deep to pass them half-way down the course and win by three lengths.

Another junior win came in the women’s novice coxed fours. The crew of Em Knight, Em Price, Jennie Webb, Lizzie Jeynes and cox Harriet Walker saw off Bristol in their first race and Stourport in the semi-final.

They defeated Llandaff in the final by three lengths.

The girls repeated the feat 24 hours later over the sprint course, this time coxed by Hannah Johnson.

Worcester fought off challenges from Bridgnorth and Loughborough only to race senior club-mates in the final.

However, the younger crew won by a length and-a-half.
