THERE was a period in the Eastwood Town game when I witnessed the best football from a Worcester City side for a very long time.

We were absolutely awesome in our 4-2 Blue Square Bet North victory in Nottinghamshire — there is no other way to describe it.

When we went to Eastwood on Tuesday, our original plan was to frustrate them for the opening 15 to 20 minutes and then, when we had a foothold in the game, our opportunities would come.

But it was the 20 to 25 minutes before the break where we just played some fantastic football and scored all four goals.

Given the fact Eastwood, by their own admission, have one of the highest budgets in our league — they have resources we can only dream of — it was amazing.

There are not going to be many sides who will go there this season and get three points.

At half-time, we were 4-0 up and the game should have been dead and buried but we knew Eastwood would come at us in the second-half and that is what they did. It was an onslaught but we managed to ride our luck and hold on for the win.

Before the game, I asked for more composure in front of goal and that is what I got.

Defender Mark Clyde popped up with two goals and summer signing Mark Danks curled in a beautiful free-kick.

We have now been back in league action for nearly a week and I have to say, on footballing ability, we can compete with most teams in this division and I would back us to score goals too.

There is one massive difference to the South division we played in last season and that is the North is a much more physical league.

There may be times when we have to change our style of play to try and combat the physical approach of some of the teams and we have been caused problems by the direct approach.

It is difficult to have a big, strong team who can cope with the physical approach and also play silky football —in fact, it is near-impossible.

We head to Vauxhall Motors on Saturday and I expect them to pass the ball around much more than Gainsborough Trinity last weekend and Eastwood on Tuesday night.

Talking of the Gainsborough match, which we lost 2-1 at St George’s Lane, I want to thank the fans for the reception we got at the end of the match.

To have 750 of you there was fantastic.

I know it is difficult to please everyone but your applause after the game, even though we had lost, did not go unnoticed and was appreciated by all of us in the dressing room.
